HH Review: The Little Nell Aspen
/Overview
The Little Nell is one of the only 5 star, 5 Diamond hotel in all of Colorado and the only ski in/ ski out property in Aspen. This stunning Relais Chateaux hotel is perfect for the world traveler who is hungry for adventure and seeks a luxury hotel experience. The Little Nell is located in the heart of downtown Aspen, right at the base of Ajax mountain. The onsite ski concierge and proximity to the Silver Queen Gondola (just steps away from the back door) make the Little Nell the most convenient option if you’re like me and love to spend your days hitting the slopes. The après ski culture in Aspen is unlike any other in the United States. I will say, I did a bit more après than I did skiing but from what I hear, that’s the norm in this magical magical mountain town.
What we love
Interior design elements. The hotel lobby and living room space is adorned with fine art and luxurious furniture detailing. The design pays tribute to Aspen’s energetic cultural scene while also incorporating natural wood and stone elements, and (my favorite) Grey Malin photography. The living room was originally designed to be a social space, which makes it the perfect place to meet people in between runs or have a bite before you head to your après ski destination.
Chair 9, the hotel bar, is a vibrant, cabin like space which feels intimate but not crowded. After a long day on the slopes this was our go-to spot to socialize, drink rose and dance the afternoon away.
The concierge service went above and beyond. The staff was incredibly punctual and always accommodated our requests in a timely manner- they brought me cold medicine and cough drops within 30 minutes of my request.
Rooms
We stayed in a Mountain Side premium guest room which comfortably fit two people, and had plenty of space for a third.
Some of my favorite features: Balcony overlooking Ajax mountain, the gas log fireplace and the coziest King bed. But most importantly… I lived in the hotel robe and slippers. HH approved!
Our bathroom came with a steam shower and full Jacuzzi soaking tub, two sinks with plenty of counter space and Crème de Marfil heated marble flooring and walls. There was a full desk, two lounge chairs and two large closets to accommodate all the bulky winter clothing.
All rooms come fully stacked with a refreshment bar that offers complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and snacks that are refreshed daily.
The interiors are simple, featuring neutral tones and details like a walnut trestle and original contemporary art on the walls.
Food and Drink
The Little Nell is notorious for it’s fine dining, Après ski hot spots and world renowned chefs. With two restaurants and three bars right on property, there is little room for boredom.
Head to Element 47 for an award-winning culinary experience at one of Aspen’s most popular hot spots to eat, drink and unwind. The team of sommeliers is claimed to be one of the main reasons The Little Nell has held it’s Five Star, Five Diamond ranking for so long. Private wine cellar tastings and dinner are available hosted by one of the lead sommeliers. While the restaurant is upscale and beautifully decorated, the attire is casual, as most places in Aspen are. Element 47 is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, après and dinner.
Ajax Tavern is The Little Nell’s go-to après ski destination. Located at the base of Ajax Mountain, this is one of the most convenient options for fueling up after a day on the slopes. Enjoy a wagyu burger with a glass of champagne while the DJ spins your favorite hits on the patio.
Chair 9 (the hotel hot spot) is recognized as being one of the best après ski lounges in the country. Here is where you will find yourself dancing the night away in ski clothes popping bottles of champagne. DJs play daily from from 3:30- 7:30 pm.
