/The coveted Firmdale Hotels has opened its second U.S. location: The Whitby Hotel.
Adding to its catalog of designer hotels in London and New York, The Whitby Hotel is sister to Firmdale’s first hotel in NYC, the Crosby Hotel. The Whitby Hotel stands at 16 floors with 86 guest rooms and began taking reservations February 27th. Delivering the infamous Kit Kemp design of course, The Whitby Hotel will include the designer’s flare and original style in each individual room. Rooms such as the Terrace Suite include floor-to-ceiling windows, colorful furniture, and offbeat wall art. The Whitby Suite occupies the entire top floor and offers two large, king-sized bedrooms. The Whitby Suite’s sweeping terraces creates striking views of New York on both sides of the property. Other bedrooms include Junior Terrace Suite and the Three Bedroom Suite.
The Whitby Hotel also opened The Whitby Bar & Restaurant, an open space bursting with color and a 30-foot bar serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, tea, and cocktails. It also offers a 130-seat theatre equipped with advanced sound technology and outfitted to host film screenings and live performances. The hotel will also include a gym and full-sized library.
The Whitby Hotel’s originality will surely shake up the neighborhood, blocks from the world-famous 5th Avenue. High-end stores like Tiffany & Co., Bergdorf’s, Henri Bendel, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci all surround The Whitby and is walking distance from Central Park, MoMa, New York City Theatre, Radio City Music Hall and more. According to the Firmdale Hotel site, Kim and Tim Kemp believe that “hotels should be living things, not stuffy institutions” and we couldn’t agree more.
Although Firmdale is based in London, The Whitby Hotel encompasses New York City’s originality, energy, and magic.
