Discover La Peer Hotel West Hollywood

La Peer Hotel is an intimate enclave in the heart of West Hollywood’s Design District set to open in August 2017.

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has partnered with award-winning Icelandic-born designer Gulla Jónsdóttir as lead creative designer of the highly anticipated La Peer Hotel opening in Los Angeles this summer. Jónsdóttir is the principal of Gulla Jónsdóttir Architecture & Design, a Los Angeles-based design studio with a reputation for integrated work across the fields of architecture, interior design, graphic design, product design and brand management. La Peer Hotel holds particular significance for the designer, as the site of the hotel is also the original location of Jónsdóttir’s first studio in Los Angeles.

“Imagine a space where art, music, fashion, poetry, film and architecture intertwine to a cacophony of spatial harmony,” says Jonsdottir. “With this project, we’re taking design cues from our neighbors—from fashion to high-end furniture, artists, and poets—in addition to the array of creative visitors who gather from all over the world. By collaborating with a number of artists, the space will be alive with their creative energies, arousing a sense of stylish curiosity for La Peer Hotel’s guests.”

Located in West Hollywood’s coveted Design District between the famed streets of Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue, La Peer Hotel will be an elegant and intimate enclave, reflecting the neighborhood’s emphasis on art, architecture, and fashion. The design-centric hotel will evoke a cool style that is quintessential West Hollywood, juxtaposed by the warm and relaxed environment loyal guests of Kimpton seek. The property will feature 105 guest rooms and suites, a 4,000-square foot private rooftop terrace, 1,670 square feet of sophisticated indoor meeting and event facilities, poolside fitness center and more than 8,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor dining and lounge spaces. In addition, the hotel’s pool will be an escape from the bustling city, accented by lush landscaping and handcrafted lanterns that set the tone for an urban retreat.

La Peer Hotel’s overall aesthetic will be chic and comforting with a brushstroke of understated elegance featuring earth tones and natural materials, such as boardform concrete and leather walls, white oak wood flooring, plaster walls that look soft, liquid surfaces that are solid, and bronze columns. Combined with the finest European furniture, art will abound at every turn. Custom designs will include curved brass ceiling details, a leather cocoon wall, and six-foot round light sconces that emit an ambient glow in the lobby lounge. Hand-selected paintings, photography, and poetry from Jónsdóttir’s colleagues and friends will be interspersed throughout the hotel as well.

The patio bar and pool lounge will exude a casual European ambiance, perfect for aperitivo hour to midnight. The space will be adorned with a bronze and wood bar with Gaudi tiles, oversized wood ceiling fans, and brass vintage light fixtures. A vertical garden wall, a key design feature of the outdoor space, will flank the pool framed by olive trees with hanging light fixtures to create an evening glow over the soft ripples on the surface of the pool.

The European vibe will be continued throughout the guestrooms with features of grey and beige patterned tile. The Signature Rooms will showcase white oak herringbone wood floors and a luxurious open bathroom with a free-standing tub as well as a separate large shower with a geometric shaped window looking out to the room itself. The bridge suite will offer a living room, high ceiling, and a modern design with white oak floors and concrete walls. The one-bedroom suites will have a comforting feel and luxurious sense of style in a light color palette.

The penthouse on the fourth floor will feature Jónsdóttir’s own furniture collection “Heimaland”—a journey of the senses of custom one-of-a-kind art pieces. The flooring will be a striped pattern of charcoal and light grey wood floors throughout, while the walls will be two-toned black and earth grey showcasing paintings and neon art. The large terrace overlooking the pool will feature a lounge and dining area, greenery, and a fire pit.
